The price of auto parts is no less than six factors play a role

In recent months, car manufacturers and dealers have frequently adjusted vehicle prices. However, auto parts prices have remained relatively high. According to a recent survey conducted by Xinhuaxin Market Research & Consulting Co., Ltd. in Beijing, six key factors influence the pricing of auto parts: raw material suppliers, part manufacturers, new market entrants, post-market producers, vehicle makers, and consumers. The findings revealed that while some auto parts have seen significant price drops, the overall market remains somewhat cold, with limited consumer awareness or interest. Since the start of the year, most auto parts have experienced price fluctuations. Yet, this critical aspect of car ownership is often overlooked by buyers. Some consumers even expressed frustration, questioning whether auto parts had entered a "cold market." The price adjustments in the automotive parts sector have not generated much public attention. For instance, many imported parts—especially from brands like Toyota and Nissan—have seen reductions of 10% to 15%. Meanwhile, domestic auto parts show mixed trends, with some components seeing price cuts while others, particularly engine and transmission parts, have risen sharply, sometimes by as much as three times. Experts suggest that supply and demand play a major role in determining auto parts prices. Models with low market presence, such as luxury cars like Bentley or Lamborghini, tend to have expensive spare parts due to limited availability. On the other hand, widely owned models like the Santana, Jetta, and Fukang typically see lower accessory costs over time as their market share grows. In the long run, the price of most auto parts is expected to decrease as more vehicles are on the road. Manufacturing and distribution costs also affect part prices. Since auto parts are closely tied to the total cost of owning a vehicle, changes in their pricing can significantly influence purchasing decisions. However, many consumers remain unaware of these price shifts. A recent survey found that less than 10% of buyers inquire about spare parts before purchasing a car, focusing instead on the vehicle's initial price. For example, Nanjing Fiat recently reduced the prices of over 2,000 types of auto parts. Despite this, the news did not boost sales as expected. In contrast, price cuts on vehicle models had immediate effects on consumer interest. Industry sources note that maintenance costs account for roughly one-third of a car’s total cost, with parts making up over 60% of that expense. This lack of awareness can lead to unexpected expenses later on. A car owner who bought an economical model found that replacing a headlight cost 2,000 yuan, which was seven times more expensive than the same part on an Audi A6. Such experiences highlight how important it is for buyers to consider spare parts prices when selecting a vehicle. Two main reasons explain why the auto parts market remains cold. First, many consumers are unfamiliar with the technical aspects of car maintenance, especially first-time buyers. Second, some businesses deliberately obscure part prices to maximize profits. Repair shops may not inform customers about price reductions, allowing them to charge higher rates. However, some 4S service centers have started to openly publish part prices, a move welcomed by many car owners. Analysts believe that while there is room for further price reductions in the auto parts market, the extent of these cuts depends on consumer awareness and competitive pressure among manufacturers.
