In January, the national automobile industry experienced a slight decline in both production and sales compared to the previous month. While sales dropped slightly more than production, both remained relatively strong, with production and sales reaching 101.63% of the previous month’s levels, indicating an overall stable market environment.
According to official statistics, total vehicle production in January stood at 521,600 units, while sales reached 530,100 units. Compared to December, this marked a 7.15% decrease in production and a 14.60% drop in sales. However, when looking at year-on-year performance, both figures showed significant growth—up 28.24% for production and 44.62% for sales, reflecting a positive trend in the sector.
Among the top five automotive companies in terms of sales in January, SAIC, FAW, Changan, Dongfeng, and Beijing Automotive each sold 103,500, 78,000, 68,800, 67,700, and 4,200 vehicles respectively. Except for Changan, all other companies saw a decline from the previous month, with FAW and BAIC experiencing the most notable drops. On a year-over-year basis, however, only BAIC recorded a minor decline, while the rest reported strong growth, with SAIC leading the way in terms of percentage increase.
Combined, these five companies accounted for 67.91% of the country’s total automobile sales in January, highlighting their dominant position in the market. Despite the monthly decline, the overall performance remains robust, supported by strong year-on-year growth and continued consumer demand.
