Famous auto parts and after-sales service exhibition will be held in Shanghai in December

Automechanika, the world's leading auto parts and after-sales service exhibition, has been making waves in China since 2004. Following the success of Automechanika China in Beijing, the event expanded to Shanghai, offering global suppliers a powerful platform to tap into one of the fastest-growing automotive markets. The Shanghai edition of the exhibition took place from December 2nd to 4th, 2004, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. It attracted around 300 exhibitors and over 13,000 professional visitors, highlighting its growing importance in the industry. Automechanika Shanghai has continually broadened its scope, covering everything from original equipment accessories to various types of aftermarket products, tools, and technologies. The event serves as a comprehensive showcase for all aspects of the automotive industry, acting as a key window for professionals in Shanghai and the broader East China region to stay updated on global trends and innovations. Ms. Shi Bitian, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt Exhibition (Hong Kong) Limited, emphasized that the decision to host the exhibition in Shanghai was driven by the increasing demand for such events in the region. "European manufacturers and suppliers are starting to realize the vast potential of the Chinese market," she said. "It's no longer feasible to treat China as a single market; it needs to be segmented. With over 350 million people in Shanghai and neighboring provinces, there's a clear need for an exhibition where they can actively participate." As a major financial and trade hub, Shanghai is also one of China’s most important automobile production centers. Companies like SAIC Motor, Shanghai Volkswagen, and Shanghai General Motors have established a strong presence in the city. In the first ten months of 2003, Shanghai produced 460,000 vehicles, ranking first among all provinces and growing by 47% year-on-year. The city also leads in domestic car sales, with 238,000 units sold between January and April of the same year. The Yangtze River Delta region, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, is experiencing rapid economic growth and attracting significant foreign investment. In 2002, the combined auto sales revenue of these three regions reached $49 billion, accounting for 60% of the national total. The demand for high-quality after-sales services is also rising, with over 5,000 auto repair centers operating in Shanghai. However, many still lag behind international standards, creating a pressing need for advanced maintenance and testing equipment. With the upcoming implementation of European-style secondary exhaust emission standards and the completion of the Shanghai International Automobile City by 2006, along with the 2010 World Expo, the automotive industry in Shanghai is set for further expansion. These developments are expected to bring more foreign investment and strengthen the local market.
