Famous auto parts and after-sales service exhibition will be held in Shanghai in December

Automechanika, the world's leading auto parts and after-sales service exhibition, has made a significant move by launching its Shanghai edition starting in 2004. Following the success of Automechanika China in Beijing, this new event aims to provide global auto parts and service suppliers with deeper access to one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. The Shanghai exhibition is scheduled to take place from December 2nd to 4th, 2004, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. It is expected to draw around 300 exhibitors and over 13,000 professional visitors. Expanding on its product range, Automechanika Shanghai will cover original equipment accessories, various types of aftermarket products, tools, and advanced technologies in automotive services. This comprehensive approach ensures that the exhibition becomes a key platform for industry professionals across Shanghai and the broader East China region. It will serve as a vital window into the latest trends and innovations shaping the global automotive market. Ms. Shi Bitian, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt Exhibition (Hong Kong) Limited, emphasized the strategic importance of hosting the event in Shanghai: "The demand for such exhibitions is growing rapidly not only in China but globally. European manufacturers and suppliers are beginning to recognize the vast potential of the Chinese market. With a population of over 350 million in Shanghai and surrounding provinces, it's essential to have an exhibition that allows them to engage directly with local businesses." As China's financial and trade hub, Shanghai is also a major center for automobile production. Companies like SAIC, Shanghai Volkswagen, and Shanghai General Motors are key players in the industry. In the first ten months of the previous year, Shanghai produced 460,000 vehicles, ranking first nationwide with a 47% year-on-year growth. Additionally, the city leads in domestic car sales, with 238,000 units sold between January and April. The Yangtze River Delta, which includes Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang, is experiencing rapid economic expansion, drawing substantial foreign investment. In 2002, the auto sales revenue in these three regions reached $49 billion, accounting for 60% of the national total. The demand for high-quality after-sales services is also rising, with more than 5,000 repair centers operating in the area. However, many still lag behind international standards, creating a strong need for advanced maintenance and testing equipment. With the upcoming implementation of stricter European emission standards and the completion of the Shanghai International Automobile City by 2006, along with the 2010 World Expo, the automotive sector in Shanghai is set for further growth. These developments will likely attract even more foreign investment and boost the demand for innovative automotive solutions.
