Autodesk Expands Learning Resources to Boost Digital Skills of Construction Teams in the Office, Trailer and Field

New programs aim to enhance tech skills among current workers and inspire a more diverse generation to pursue careers in construction

SAN FRANCISCO, July 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In response to growing challenges in the construction industry, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has launched new initiatives designed to upskill existing workers and attract a new, diverse group of talent into the field. As part of its broader digital transformation strategy, the company has introduced two key platforms: the Construction Master Class and the Autodesk Construction Cloud Learning Center. These resources are aimed at helping professionals gain new skills, advance their careers, and future-proof their businesses in an increasingly technology-driven industry.

The construction sector is currently grappling with a severe labor shortage and a widening digital skills gap. A recent survey by the Associated General Contractors of America and Autodesk revealed that 89% of U.S. construction firms struggle to fill hourly craft positions, while 86% face difficulty in hiring for salaried roles. Globally, a Core Research survey found that 59% of professionals cited a lack of skilled labor as the main issue, with 43% believing the right talent is available but not being effectively attracted by companies.

To address these challenges, Autodesk has rolled out two new learning platforms. The Construction Master Class offers free online tutorials led by industry leaders, covering best practices in workflows, cost control, quality management, and collaboration. Meanwhile, the Autodesk Construction Cloud Learning Center provides accessible, multilingual courses on using Autodesk’s tools, such as Build, Takeoff, and Docs. Since its launch in 2021, over 42,000 users from 134 countries have enrolled in the program.

In addition to these platforms, Autodesk has also introduced other programs to support workforce development. The Autodesk Membership Training Provider Program partners with trade unions and associations to provide access to digital tools like Autodesk Construction Cloud and Revit. The Make It Real initiative encourages young people to engage with real-world construction challenges through education, mentorship, and funding opportunities, including $50,000 in microgrants for training and development.

“There’s a huge demand for workers who are not only physically capable but also digitally proficient,” said Ronald McGuire, program administrator at the International Training Institute. “Autodesk’s resources will help us upskill our members and equip new ones with the tools they need to succeed.”

Allison Scott, director of customer experience at Autodesk, added, “With many experienced workers retiring in the coming years, the industry needs more skilled professionals. Our learning initiatives are designed to help companies stay competitive and adapt to the evolving demands of the digital age.”

Autodesk continues to lead the way in transforming how the world is built, offering tools that empower professionals across architecture, engineering, construction, and beyond. Through innovation and education, the company is helping shape a more skilled and sustainable future for the construction industry.
