Shanxi uncovers rare cases of fraudulent domestic lubricants

On November 7, the Public Security Bureau of Datong City, Shanxi Province, announced significant progress in the "8.22" fake lubricant case, which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Security. All major suspects involved in the criminal operation have been arrested and are now facing legal consequences. This case represents a clear violation of intellectual property rights, with the suspects allegedly engaging in multiple illegal activities, including counterfeiting registered trademarks, selling goods bearing fake trademarks, producing and selling substandard products, as well as committing tax evasion through false invoicing.
According to the investigation, Datong Jinxin Petrochemical Co., Ltd., along with Zhang Zhibin and others, began operating from 2003. They established a lubricant production facility in Xihe Village using an unregistered brand called Ying Lai. Over the years, they set up more than 20 sales outlets, primarily in Shanghai Auto Parts City, where they illegally printed and used counterfeit trademarks such as Great Wall, Unified Brand, and Jiao Ma. In addition, they sold lubricants under unregistered names like Ying Lai and even falsely claimed some products were Austrian brands.
These counterfeit products were distributed across several provinces, including Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and Shaanxi, with a strong focus on sales in cities such as Datong, Luzhou, and Quzhou. The total value of the illegal sales reached as high as 30 million yuan. Notably, the criminals used their illicit profits to build a larger counterfeit factory in the Datong Development Zone, although it was discovered and dismantled before it could start operations.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges of combating intellectual property infringement and the serious consequences for those involved in such illegal activities. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of protecting trademarks and ensuring consumer safety by cracking down on fake products.
