New energy vehicle access rules "cold out": nickel-metal hydride battery car into the mainstream

On the evening of June 25, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the “Regulations on the Management of New Energy Vehicle Production Enterprises and Product Access”, which will be implemented on July 1. Industry analysts believe that this rule indicates for the first time that the importance of nickel-metal hydride batteries exceeds that of lithium-ion batteries and will become the development direction of China's new energy vehicles in the future.

According to the notification on the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, new energy vehicles include hybrid vehicles, pure electric vehicles, fuel cell electric vehicles, hydrogen engine vehicles, and other new energy sources (such as high-efficiency energy storage, dimethyl ether) automobiles and other categories of products. The key is to open the first three new energy automotive product access conditions: meet safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, anti-theft and other standards; the Ministry of Industry and the designated testing agency testing qualified; does not infringe other people's intellectual property rights.

This rule divides new energy automotive products into three different technical stages: starting phase, development phase, and maturity phase. Fuel cell vehicles, hydrogen engine vehicles and DME vehicles belong to the initial stage; lithium-ion battery powered hybrid passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and pure electric vehicles are all in the development phase; nickel-hydrogen batteries, lead-acid battery batteries The production of hybrid passenger cars, pure electric passenger cars and pure electric commercial vehicles are mature products.

China Investment Advisors Automotive Analysis Li Shengmao said, "What is surprising is that BYD's dual-mode electric vehicles, which were previously considered most promising by the industry, belong to lithium-ion battery vehicles and are classified as development products in this entry rule. Although they can be mass-produced, they will be produced in the future. It can only be sold and used within the approved area."

He also pointed out that "the introduction of this rule marks the entry of the new energy automobile industry into a speed-up period and the product structure has been adjusted. Different new energy vehicle products will have different future. It is significant for Ni-MH battery passenger vehicle companies. Good."

When talking about why such a shift occurred, he explained: “The reason why the country now shifts its focus from lithium batteries to nickel-metal hydride batteries is mainly because nickel-metal hydride batteries are more mature than lithium-ion batteries and mineral resources are more abundant. In the future, new energy vehicles will be easier to enter into the commercialization stage. The main nickel-metal hydride battery supplier is now Ke Liyuan."

According to Li Shengmao's interpretation, another important implication of the rule is that the country will introduce new energy vehicle subsidy for consumption and demonstration work for a dozen of ten cities in the future. In the future, all auto companies will apply for and report their new energy according to the standard. Model.

Judging from the market reaction on June 26th, the car stocks did not experience a sharp rise and fall. “Now every family has new energy vehicles. The rules have little effect on the market, but for the industry, there is a regulatory role, the first standards, to enter the development track of industrialization.” Pacific Institute of Automotive Research fellows talk Good thinks so.
