Guangzhou government departments disclosed for the first time this week that in May Guangzhou's auto production grew by more than 20% year-on-year, and recorded a positive growth from the previous month in April. At the same time, major automakers in Guangzhou have already started sharpening their jobs and started a new round of expansion.

Last month's output value increased by 18.9% year-on-year

According to a report released this week by the Guangzhou Municipal Economic and Trade Commission and the Statistics Bureau, the increase in the local auto manufacturing industry rebounded sharply, driving the growth of the three pillar industries including automotive, electronics and petrochemicals. In May, the city’s auto manufacturing industry achieved a total output value of 17.019 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.9%, a growth rate of 9.5 percentage points from the previous month, and an automobile output of 86,100 vehicles, which was a year-on-year increase of 1.8% and 21.7% respectively.

The report of the Guangzhou Municipal Economic and Trade Commission also pointed out that with the rapid growth of the automobile industry in Huadu District, the cumulative growth of the total industrial output value reached 23.1%, which was the highest in all cities and the growth rate was 3.1%. With the Guangzhou automobile industry as the main body, the total output value of the Guangdong automobile industry has been the top three in the country this year. The three big car companies or launch a new round of expansion

Guangzhou automakers recently also launched a new round of expansion. At the end of last month, GAC Toyota’s second plant took the lead in production. The company’s annual production capacity jumped from 200,000 units to 360,000 units. Industry insiders predict that after Guangzhou adds 160,000 new production capacity, it is expected to win the championship of the first car this year.

Dongfeng Nissan, which has a good momentum of development since last year, also has an impulse to expand production. The company sold 180,000 vehicles in May this year and has already ranked among the top five domestic passenger car companies. Dongfeng Nissan completed sales of 355,000 vehicles last year, a substantial increase of 29%. The company set a target of 388,000 vehicles at the beginning of this year, an increase of 10% in sales. According to the reporter's understanding, due to rapid sales growth in the first half of the year, the annual sales target of Dongfeng Nissan has been increased to more than 400,000 vehicles.
