The Glenview Fire Department is expanding its fleet with two new units currently on order. These additions mark an important step in modernizing the department’s emergency response capabilities.
First, a Type I ambulance from Medtec (Model M-170) built on an IHC 4300 chassis is expected to arrive in early November. This unit will feature a slightly larger body than the current fleet and will have a modified paint scheme. It will be assigned to Ambulance 6, replacing the existing unit that will be moved to reserve status. The current Ambulance 6, which is a 2007 IHC 4300/Medtec Type I, will be retired, and the Freightliner/Road Rescue unit will be disposed of.
In February, Truck 14 will receive a 2013 Pierce Arrow XT 100′ rear-mount quint. This apparatus will include roll-up doors similar to the current 2003 Pierce Dash model, along with a 1,500-GPM pump, 400 gallons of water, and two 25-gallon foam cells. The cab will maintain the same configuration as the department’s engine units, while the extended front bumper will house hydraulic extrication tools. This upgrade is expected to enhance the department’s fire suppression and rescue capabilities.
New photos have been added to Station 6’s website. One image shows the current Ambulance 6, while another features Engine 6, which had not yet been uploaded. These images provide a visual look at the department’s current fleet.
A new photo of Engine 6 has also been added. It shows a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT 1500/400/10/40 rescue pumper, which closely resembles Engine 8, a 2009 model. This unit plays a key role in responding to medical emergencies and structural fires.
Additionally, Glenview Squad 6 has been decommissioned and is now available for sale. The unit, which was previously used for rapid response and technical rescue operations, has been replaced by newer equipment. A photo of the decommissioned squad has been posted, marking the end of its service with the department.
