New Precision Model Resin for 3D Printing Restorative Models With Industry-Leading Accuracy and Precision
July 01, 2025
It’s not just the printer that matters—it's what you can create with it. Formlabs Dental’s new Precision Model Resin is designed to elevate your dental 3D printing experience, delivering unmatched accuracy and precision for restorative models. With over 99% of the printed surface within 100 μm of the digital model, this material sets a new standard in digital dentistry.
With over 15 million parts printed using our 15+ dental-specific resins, we're constantly pushing boundaries. The Form 4B's advanced hardware gave us the perfect opportunity to develop materials that match its performance. By integrating software, hardware, and resin development, we've created an ecosystem that boosts speed, accuracy, and durability—all while keeping things simple for dental professionals.

Precision Model Resin
Precision Model Resin is the next evolution in dental 3D printing. Designed specifically for the Form 4B, it offers faster print speeds, better accuracy, and improved aesthetics. This high-accuracy resin was crafted to deliver consistent, fine-detail restorative models that meet the highest standards in the industry.
It's ideal for:
Restorative models
Crown fit test models
Implant models
Removable die models
One of the key improvements is the resin’s opacity, which helps in visualizing margin lines more clearly. Dr. Christopher Baer, DMD, says, "The color looks great—especially for crowns. The team at Formlabs did an amazing job nailing the look." Plus, with three times the speed of previous formulations, you can print eight models in under 90 minutes at 50 μm layer thickness, all at a cost of $2–$4 per part.
Precise and Accurate
When printed on the Form 4B at 50 μm, Precision Model Resin achieves 99.7% of the surface within 100 μm of the CAD model and 95% within 50 μm. This level of consistency across printers and batches ensures reliable results every time.
Create restorative models with over 99% of their printed surface area within 100 μm of the design parameters.
Compared to leading competitors, Precision Model Resin outperforms in terms of accuracy across all tolerance ranges.

Production-Optimized Workflow
Speed isn’t just about print time—it also includes post-processing. Precision Model Resin cuts down on overall workflow time, making it ideal for high-volume production.
Scan and Design
Once the patient’s dentition is scanned and the model is designed in your CAD software, import the STL or OBJ file into PreForm Dental for easy setup and orientation.
Print
In PreForm, orient the parts directly on the build platform. For best results, manually position and support the dies. Once ready, load the resin cartridge and start printing.
Post-Process
After printing, remove the parts from the build platform. Wash them in 99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for five minutes, then cure them for optimal mechanical properties.
Improved Material Properties
Precision Model Resin is tougher, stronger, and more impact-resistant than its predecessor. This makes it ideal for handling the demands of implant analogs and die pressing without breaking.

Case Study at Hybridge Implants
Hybridge Implants uses 3D printed models to produce full-mouth implant-supported prosthetics. These models must be extremely accurate and strong to handle metal components being screwed in. Before Precision Model Resin, they used two different resins for two separate teams. Now, one model does it all.
“The new material has changed everything. The threads hold perfectly, and the strength is incredible.â€
With Precision Model Resin, Hybridge now prints just one model that works for both the metal and assembly teams. It saves time, money, and effort while maintaining top-tier quality and accuracy.
Print Restorative Models With Industry-Leading Accuracy
With the release of the Form 4B, our team had the chance to develop materials optimized for its advanced features. Precision Model Resin was built with feedback from dental professionals, offering superior accuracy, detail, and speed for restorative models. Whether you’re printing for crown fits, implants, or removable dies, this resin delivers consistent, professional results.
