On Thursday evening, Palatine firefighters responded to a residential fire at 308 W. Slade Street. Upon arrival, crews discovered smoke coming from a single-family home. Local police had already evacuated a resident, who was treated by paramedics on the scene but declined hospital transport.
As firefighters searched for the source of the fire, they were informed that an elderly woman had not yet exited the building. She was quickly located and rescued by emergency personnel. Unfortunately, paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident sparked a coordinated response from multiple emergency services, with several fire trucks and medical units arriving to assist. The fire appeared to be contained, though the cause is still under investigation.
Photos from the scene show firefighters working alongside paramedics, as well as the large fire apparatus deployed to the location. A Spartan ERV fire engine and a tower ladder unit were among the vehicles seen responding to the call.
