1 Introduction
West Yalita is part of Duval's subsidiary, Duvali Yalita, located 32km south of Taksan, Arizona. It is a joint enterprise of mining, selection and smelting. Greater production capacity: daily ore processing 90kt, annual amount of copper metal 94.6kt, the amount of molybdenum metal 6810t; molybdenum iron smelting capacity 1135t, 1,135,000 ounces silver. It is the fourth largest copper mine in the United States.
In the early stage of mining and mining, 634Mt of waste rock was stripped, and the total amount of all ore and rock was more than l000Mt, which was twice as large as that of the Panama Canal.
Construction began in 1968. It was selected and put into production in June 1970, with a design of 72 kt/d and an expansion of 90 kt/d. The total amount of daily stripping was 250 kt. In February 1975, the ferromolybdenum plant was put into operation.
2. Deposits, ores and mining
West Yali is a porphyry copper-molybdenum deposit. The ore body is 2400m long from south to north and 1600m wide from east to west. The proven ore reserves are above 414Mt. It is estimated that copper can be produced at 1170kt, producing 107.8kt of molybdenum and 179t of silver. Quartz monzonite and quartz diorite are the main rocks. Wherein chlorite, gypsum, potassium feldspar, sericite phenocrysts alteration of the major product. Due to the crushing and alteration effect of quartz monzonite, the ore has a small grain size, so the ore is broken and the grinding is easier. The sulfide ore is mainly composed of chalcopyrite, molybdenite and pyrite. It is embedded in the gangue or quartz network veins in star point and dip-like shape. Part veins found small amounts of galena, sphalerite and tennantite, magnetite. Open pit mining, car transportation.
3. Mineral processing technology
A three-stage closed circuit crushing process, respectively two sets of 1470 × 2260mm gyratory cone crusher, four 1384EHD hydraulic crusher, ten short head 384 of the hydraulic cone crusher. Product size 80% -16.8mm.
The copper-molybdenum mixed flotation is divided into 16 series, which adopts rough selection, coarse concentrate and one regrind, and two selected processes. see picture 1.

Feeding: Grade 0.32% Cu, 0.03% Mo, particle size of powder ore: 80%-16.8mm, grinding fineness 67%-100 mesh.
Copper-molybdenum mixed concentrate; grade 25% Cu, 2%~3% Mo, recovery 90% Cu, 83% Mo. Flotation slurry concentration: 38~40% for rough selection, 10%~12% for fine 1 and 25%~8% for fine.
Tailings grade: 0.032% Cu, 0.0005% Mo.
Grinding 16 sets of ¢5.0×5.8m turbulent ball mills , each with 5 Krebs D-26B cyclones closed.
The ball mill of the West Yalita plant adopts a high transfer rate: designed to be 66.2%. In 1971, it was changed to 72%, and the production capacity increased by 8%, the wear of the liner increased by 15%, and the ball consumption increased by 5%. Taiwan changed in 1976.
Copper-molybdenum sorting: The process is shown in Figure 2. After the copper-molybdenum mixed concentrate is concentrated, it is heated to 80-85 ° C by steam, and the average stay is 15 min and then enters a rough, one sweep, one regrind, three selection process. The operational indicators are listed in Table 1.

Molybdenum iron plant: using multi-layer furnace roasting, silicon thermal method melting ferromolybdenum. For the molybdenum concentrate containing 54% molybdenum, it is calcined by wet method and then calcined into industrial molybdenum trioxide. Molybdenum trioxide contains 60% molybdenum, 0.1% sulfur, and 0.1% copper. In 1974, a molybdenum-iron alloy of 5,221 tons of molybdenum metal was produced.

The ore grade is 0.32%Cu, 0.03 % Mo grinding fineness 67%-100 mesh, ore processing capacity is 90kt/d, molybdenum concentrate (after ferric chloride leaching) grade 54% Mo, 0.1% Cu, molybdenum recovery 74.5%~78%. The copper concentrate grade is 26% Cu, 0.15%~0.20% Mo, and the copper recovery rate is 90%. The molybdenum trioxide grade is 60% Mo, 0.1% S, 0.1% Cu.
