DuPont receives orders for marine scrubber systems for 2 self-unloading bulk carriers

It is reported that DuPont Sustainable Solutions has signed a contract with Jiangsu Hantong Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. to provide DuPont marine scrubber system for two newly constructed self-unloading bulk carriers. The scrubber system was developed by BELCO, a subsidiary of DuPont.

Vulica Shipping Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vulcan Materials, Inc., will own the two bulk carriers. Each bulk carrier will be equipped with a multi-entry scrubber that handles the exhaust from multiple auxiliary engines and is equipped with a single inlet scrubber for the main unit.

DuPont's scrubbers are designed in tandem to help operate without a fan or a bypass. This scrubber has DuPont's “dry running” capability, which makes it easier for ships to enter and exit the emission control zone.

The DuPont marine scrubber system meets the requirements of the US Coast Guard, the US Environmental Protection Agency and the International Maritime Organization for Sox emissions and wash water. In addition to removing sulfur oxides, these scrubbers also reduce particulate matter.

These two bulk carriers are the first bulk carriers for Vulica Shipping Co., Ltd. to install scrubbers. The first ship will be delivered by the end of 2016 and the sea test performance test will be conducted in 2017.
