Calumet City has been added to the site

The Calumet City Fire Department recently joined our website, becoming part of MABAS Division 24. This department operates out of two fire stations equipped with state-of-the-art Pierce apparatus. Their fleet includes ambulances provided by Excellance and Medtec, as well as a stunning 1914 American LaFrance antique fire engine that they proudly maintain. With 48 career firefighters on staff, they cover an area of 7.1 square miles. I had the chance to visit both stations recently. Station 2, located at 1270 Pulaski Avenue, was particularly impressive. The facility is well-maintained, and the firefighters were incredibly welcoming. As you walk around, you can see the dedication they have for preserving their history—especially their beautifully restored 1914 American LaFrance antique engine. It’s clear this piece of equipment isn’t just a relic but a testament to how far firefighting technology has come. Station 1, situated at 684 S. Wentworth Avenue, also caught my attention. The station itself has a modern feel, yet it still retains a cozy atmosphere. From the outside, you might not immediately notice the size of their operation, but stepping inside reveals a bustling hub of activity. It’s easy to see why these firefighters take pride in their work; they’re protecting a vibrant community while keeping their traditions alive. One thing that stood out during my visit was the sense of camaraderie among the firefighters. Whether it’s at Station 1 or Station 2, there’s a strong bond between everyone on the team. They seem genuinely committed to serving their community and ensuring every member feels supported. It’s inspiring to see such dedication in action. In addition to their current fleet, the department takes great care of their historic vehicle. The antique fire engine serves as both a museum piece and a reminder of where firefighting began. It’s fascinating to compare it to today’s advanced equipment and realize just how much progress has been made over the years. Overall, the Calumet City Fire Department does an excellent job balancing tradition with innovation. Their commitment to protecting residents and preserving their legacy makes them a valuable asset to the area. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend visiting one of their stations—you’ll leave with a newfound respect for these brave men and women who put themselves on the line daily.
