The freezing point of a water coil depends on several factors, including water flow, whether the system is operational, the percentage of outside air intake, and whether glycol is present in the system. Glycol provides added freeze protection.

What happens when a unit’s coil freezes?

If a coil freezes, the entire unit becomes nonfunctional.

What occurs when a frozen coil thaws?

This can lead to significant issues. Cracks in the tubes allow water to leak out, potentially causing substantial damage depending on the extent of the leaks.

Which types of coils are designed for subzero temperatures?
