3-Alarm fire in Mt. Prospect, 6-17-24

From Jimmy Bolf: Hey everyone, I just got back from covering what turned out to be quite the event in Mount Prospect. Early this morning, firefighters were called to a third-alarm blaze at an apartment complex located at 1852 W. Palm Dr., near Golf Road. The flames spread quickly, and by the time the first responders arrived, it had already taken hold of parts of the building. The fire department managed to bring the situation under control around 3:15 AM today. It was a massive effort involving nearly every available unit in the area. As of now, we're looking at around 100 people who’ve been displaced from their homes. Thankfully, thanks to the quick response of both the Red Cross and the Village of Mount Prospect’s Human Services Department, all these folks now have temporary accommodations arranged for them. Interestingly, officials suspect that the fire might have originated in a small attic space, but they’re still investigating exactly how it started. One firefighter did sustain a minor injury during the operation, though thankfully nothing serious. He was treated right there on the scene before being cleared to go home. Here’s a bit more detail about the visuals I captured throughout the night. [Insert photos with captions]. These images really capture the intensity of the situation—smoke billowing high into the sky, flames licking at windows, and emergency vehicles lined up along the street. There’s also a great shot taken by Steve Redick showing some of the aftermath. [Insert additional photo credit]. For those interested, here’s an excerpt from CBS News’ report: "The fire broke out late Sunday evening and rapidly escalated, prompting multiple alarms as neighboring departments rushed to assist. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to contain the blaze, which eventually required over a hundred personnel to manage effectively." It's always tough seeing communities affected like this, but it’s inspiring to see how quickly support systems can mobilize when needed most. If you know anyone impacted by this fire, consider reaching out to offer help or donations if possible. Every little bit makes a difference. Stay safe out there! Best, Jimmy

A flange is a flat surface that makes a connection between a valve and the pipe very easy and free from leakage. Butterfly valve flange type has its flanges with holes. The pipe end to be connected to the valve is also designed with a flange and holes of the same size as those on the flanged valve.
