On Sunday evening at 8:30 PM, Buffalo Grove firefighters were dispatched to 691 Checker Road following reports of a fire in a second-floor bedroom. As the units were en route, they received updates from NWCD that a neighbor had spotted flames on the roof, and shortly after, another caller reported fire on the side of the house. Upon arrival, Battalion 4 observed heavy fire and immediately requested a Code 4 upgrade to escalate resources.
Firefighters from Buffalo Grove worked from both the exterior and interior to contain the blaze while conducting thorough searches throughout the structure. Additional support came from nearby departments, including Long Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, and Northbrook. The Buffalo Grove EMA also provided critical assistance with their MobileComm unit.
The fire was brought under control after a coordinated effort by multiple agencies. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Residents in the area were advised to remain cautious as crews continue to monitor the scene for any remaining hot spots.
Photos from the incident, captured by Larry Shapiro, show the intensity of the fire and the efforts of first responders. These images provide a visual account of the rapid response and teamwork that helped prevent further damage.
