The engines of the new generation of Audi A3 will be equipped with start-stop system technology. Electric (Europe) will provide traditional starters and start-stop starters for the A3 series models. Audi stated that start-stop system technology can reduce the fuel consumption per 100 kilometers of the new A3 model by 0.4 liters.
Denso will also supply the new Audi A3 with air-conditioning compressors, EGP3 sensors, variable camshaft timing systems, and hydraulic control valves required by the EA211 engine.
The new generation of Audi A3 will be equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Audi said that with the dual clutch transmission, the driver can shift gears in 0.2 seconds. In all models using a dual clutch transmission, the driver can shift gears in fully automatic mode, and can also manually shift gears via the shift lever or the steering wheel shift lever.
Audi has commissioned the new generation A3 at its Ingolstadt plant in southern Germany in June this year. IHS Automotive expects that the output of the next-generation A3 will peak in 2014 and is expected to exceed 215,000 vehicles.
