I just got some updates on that third-alarm apartment fire in Mount Prospect. It happened overnight at an apartment building located on 1852 W. Palm Dr., near Golf Road. The firefighters really had their hands full with this one, and it seems like they put in a lot of effort to bring it under control. According to reports, the flames were finally reported as being under control around 3:15 AM today.
The impact on residents has been significant—around 100 people were left without homes. Thankfully, both the Red Cross and the Village of Mount Prospect’s Human Services Department stepped in to ensure everyone had somewhere safe to stay. That’s definitely a relief, because these situations can get really tough for families so quickly.
What’s interesting is that officials believe the fire might have started in a small attic space, but the exact cause is still being looked into. That’s always a tricky part of these investigations, trying to figure out exactly how something like this starts.
There was also a minor injury reported among the firefighters. One of them got hurt while battling the blaze, but thankfully, he only needed treatment at the scene and didn’t have to go to the hospital. That’s good news considering the intensity of the situation.
