Larry Shapiro here, just sending this update live from the scene of a house fire that broke out early this morning. Around 3 AM, the Prospect Heights Fire Department received a call about a fire at 1201 N. Stratford Road, near Rand Road. When they were on their way, they learned that there was a 14-year-old boy reportedly trapped inside the house. The family members were already outside, but several police officers who tried to search for the child had to retreat due to intense flames and thick smoke.
The first unit on the scene was Arlington Heights Engine 2, which found the house fully engulfed in fire right in the middle section. Unfortunately, the area lacks fire hydrants, so supply lines had to be laid out to an Arlington Heights street in one direction and to a shopping center across Rand Road on the other side. There was a brief water shortage when Engine 2 ran into some mechanical trouble that blocked the flow to the hoses. Thankfully, additional lines were established with help from Prospect Heights Tower 9.
A Box Alarm was quickly called in, along with extra ambulances because two adults from the house and three police officers needed medical attention. One ambulance was kept on standby in case the missing boy was found. It was eventually confirmed that the boy wasn’t at home and was located safe elsewhere. Two individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment.

You can see the firefighters battling the flames in the dark, the fully involved structure, and even the aftermath once it was all over.
