Last night, Dennis McGuire, Jr. captured some striking images of a Still & Box Alarm incident near 10220 S. Western Avenue. He provided a few pictures along with a concise description:
> The fire had already spread to the roof when Engine 121 arrived. It seemed like there might have been an explosion involved. A significant portion of the second-floor exterior wall in Sector 4 was blown outward, scattering glass all over Western Avenue. The building is a two-story brick restaurant known as Franconello’s.
The Chicago Tribune later reported:
> Authorities stated that an alleged gas leak caused the explosion that tore through Franconello Italian Restaurant in the West Beverly area on Chicago's South Side. Fortunately, no one was injured during the blaze at Franconello Italian Restaurant, located at 10220 S. Western Avenue. Firefighters received the call around 11:57 PM on Sunday and managed to bring the situation under control within approximately 20 minutes.
