Last night, Dennis McGuire, Jr. captured a Still & Box Alarm in the area. He provided several photos along with a short description:
> The fire was already raging through the roof when Engine 121 arrived. It seems there was some kind of explosion involved. The second-floor exterior wall in Sector 4 was completely blown out, scattering glass all over Western Avenue. The building is a two-story brick restaurant known as Franconello’s.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a suspected gas leak caused the explosion that tore through the Italian eatery located at 10220 S. Western Avenue in the West Beverly neighborhood on the South Side. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. The incident was reported around 11:57 PM on Sunday, and the flames were extinguished by firefighters within about 20 minutes.
Attached are some photos taken by Dennis McGuire, Jr. showing the intense firefighting efforts. In one image, you can see Truck 24 actively working at the scene. Another shot features Engine 120, which recently got its new rig (D-655), positioned across the street from a hydrant. Engine 121 is also visible, using a spare line while connected to another hydrant. Tower Ladder 39 is present as well, with Engine 120 operating two lines. A different photo highlights firefighters working on the roof, where a portion of the wall blown out by the explosion is clearly visible to the right. There's also an image of Chicago Truck 40, an E-ONE model similar to Truck 24, assisting at the scene.
