Blue Island Fire Department Museum

From the Blue Island Historical Society's Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about our local history and fire safety. Feel free to share your thoughts—Mike Summa The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by Joe Dinovo, a passionate resident of Blue Island. It’s now being supported by the City of Blue Island, the O’Callaghan family, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. The goal is to educate the public about the history of our fire department and promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most impressive pieces in the museum will be "Old Bess," a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city. The initial design, created by local artist Ken Jellema, shows a beautiful vision of what the museum might look like. While the final plans may change slightly, the project is already moving forward with great energy and excitement. These kinds of projects take time—years, even—but with the strong community support we’ve come to expect in Blue Island, we’re confident that this dream will become a reality soon. If you're interested in helping bring this and other historical initiatives to life, consider becoming a member of the Blue Island Historical Society. Here are some visuals to give you a sense of what's coming: [Image: Preliminary rendering of the Blue Island Fire Museum – Rendering by Ken Jellema] [Image: 1925 Seagrave fire engine – Blue Island Historical Society photo] It's truly an amazing step forward for our community, and I can't wait to see it all come together.
