Autodesk expands presence in on-set production, closes acquisition of production management solution PIX

In the ever-evolving world of Media & Entertainment (M&E), efficiency has always been a critical challenge. Assets often need to be recreated due to mismanagement, data gets stuck in incompatible formats, and crucial information frequently gets lost amid tangled files and folders. These inefficiencies lead to significant rework, eating into valuable time and resources for creators. To address these hurdles, we’re developing Flow, Autodesk’s industry cloud tailored specifically for M&E. Our goal with Flow is straightforward—unify data, workflows, and teams in the cloud to enhance seamless collaboration throughout the entire production lifecycle. However, achieving this isn’t as simple as it sounds. From the outset, we realized that focusing solely on post-production wouldn’t suffice. Many essential pieces of data and information originate on set, yet these early stages of production have traditionally been isolated from post-production. This disconnect often results in critical data being overlooked or lost, leading to substantial inefficiencies. Two years ago, we ventured into on-set production, extending our reach upstream to create stronger links across the entire production chain—a bold step for Autodesk and a cornerstone of our mission to modernize production workflows. With Moxion, we explored ways to streamline communication and build cohesive workflows between on-set teams and those in post-production. Fast forward to today, and with the acquisition of PIX now officially completed, we’re strengthening our presence on set while inviting studios to join us on this transformative journey. Adding PIX to our arsenal will simplify sharing data captured on set with studio executives and production teams, encouraging greater collaboration and integrating previously fragmented processes. Linking PIX’s production management solutions to Flow will ensure smoother data flow to all stakeholders and minimize inefficiencies. Learn more about PIX production management here. The combination of PIX’s expertise and extensive network with Autodesk’s resources and advanced cloud technologies, integrated through Flow, promises to elevate customer experiences and redefine how movies and TV shows are produced. I’m thrilled to welcome the exceptional PIX team to Autodesk. Together, we’ll continue pushing boundaries, fostering innovation, and empowering creators to bring their visions to life. Please note that the anticipated benefits of this acquisition hinge on Autodesk’s ability to fully integrate PIX.
