Homewood Acres FPD update

On Tuesday, Dennis McGuire, Jr. dropped by the Homewood Acres Fire Department to drop off some photos and information about their operations. He mentioned that the department isn't fully operational just yet, but they're actively working toward that goal. Currently, they have 15 volunteers undergoing training. I also learned that the old Engine 1932, which was a 1972 Ford-John Bean model, has been sold to a man in Grant Park, Illinois, who owns a pawn shop in Flossmoor. It's set to leave tomorrow morning (May 30th) and will be kept in Grant Park, occasionally being driven to the pawn shop for promotional purposes. Interestingly, this particular Ford engine runs on gas. Engine 1932 has quite the history—it was previously with X-East Joliet FPD, then X-Holbrook FPD, and finally X-Glenwood, Illinois. Meanwhile, the new Engine 1932 is a 1985 Ford/Pierce top-mount unit. It features a 1,250-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump and holds 1,000 gallons of water. Its Pierce serial number is E-2635, and it originally came from X-Plainfield FPD. As of now, they haven't decided whether to paint it or keep it its original white color. Additionally, the older Ford vehicle from Country Club Hills was scrapped a few months back. In its place, they acquired a 1986 Mack/Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois, which was formerly known as X-Engine 208. This newer rig boasts a 1,250-GPM pump and carries 750 gallons of water. Its Mack serial number is CF685FC-2242. Dennis also shared a unique photo showing all three vehicles lined up together—a striking image that captures the evolution of their fleet. As of May 29, 2012, these three rigs make up the Homewood Acres FPD's current fleet. It’s exciting to see how they’re building their capabilities step by step!
