**Autodesk Unveils Cloud-Based 3D Character Creator Tool**
In a major move for the creative industry, Autodesk has just released its latest cloud-based innovation aimed directly at media and entertainment companies. Dubbed *Autodesk Character Generator*, this new tool lets artists and enthusiasts craft fully customized, rigged, and animation-ready 3D characters. Whether you're looking to populate video game environments, learn the basics of animation and modeling, or generate models for pre-visualization and design visualization, this app has got you covered. And yes, it even supports 3D printing!
This tool originally began life as "Project Pinocchio," a highly successful Autodesk Labs tech preview that led to the creation of thousands of unique characters. Now, Character Generator comes equipped with an extensive library of pre-made male and female human and creature models.
With easy-to-use sliders and selection tools, users can mix and match the physical traits of these pre-built models—everything from body types and facial features to skin tones, hairstyles, outfits, and more—to create entirely original characters. Once your masterpiece is complete, you can export the 3D models into industry-standard software like Autodesk Maya, Maya LT, or 3ds Max for additional tweaking and animation work. Alternatively, you can integrate them into game engines such as Unity.
Currently, Character Generator is available through the Autodesk 360 cloud platform. Each character download will consume five cloud credits. Fortunately, students and educators get free access to the application along with unlimited downloads.
