Larry Shapiro photo Another view of CFD Turret Wagon 6-7-1 operating at the same 5-11 alarm fire on Clinton Street in June 1985. The wagon’s position in the rear highlights its role in supporting front-line firefighters. Larry Shapiro photo This is CFD Turret Wagon 6-7-1, built on a 1975 Mack MB600 chassis and later assigned to Engine 23. These older models were known for their durability and powerful water delivery systems. Larry Shapiro photo Assigned as 6-7-1, this unit was stationed with Engine 42 alongside the larger 6-7-5. It was built on a 1975 Chevy Scottsdale chassis, which provided a solid base for its firefighting equipment. Larry Shapiro photo Turret Wagon 6-7-4 was also constructed on a 1975 Chevy Scottsdale chassis. These vehicles were essential for high-intensity operations due to their ability to deliver large volumes of water quickly. Larry Shapiro photo CFD Turret Wagon 6-7-5 was built on a 1975 Mack MB600 chassis and served with Engine 42. These units were often used in tandem with engine companies to provide maximum water flow. Larry Shapiro photo Turret Wagon 6-7-6 was deployed during a 5-11 alarm fire at 2612-18 W. Nelson in September 2012. The use of both turrets was likely aimed at helping to bring down the building structure safely. Larry Shapiro photo The southside turret wagon, 6-7-6, was called to the W. Nelson fire in September 2012 because the northside unit was unavailable. These wagons played a crucial role in major incidents. Larry Shapiro photo Both turrets were in operation during the 5-11 alarm fire at 2612-18 W. Nelson on September 30, 2012. This image shows the power and presence of these specialized units. Larry Shapiro photo Before the recent warehouse fire on Ashland Avenue, 6-7-1 had not been seen at a fire scene for some time. These historic units are becoming rare in modern firefighting. Larry Shapiro photo A close-up of the intake system on 6-7-1. These intakes allowed the wagon to draw water efficiently from hydrants or other sources. Larry Shapiro photo After responding to a 3-11 alarm fire at 1300 W. Exchange on January 9, 2007, 6-7-1 was seen leaving the scene. These images give a glimpse into the daily life of Chicago’s fire department. Larry Shapiro photo This shot shows 6-7-1, equipped with shop number G366, departing the scene after a 3-11 alarm on Exchange Street in 2007. These units were vital in large-scale emergencies.
