Digital transformation is breaking down barriers, one silo at a time—and with enhanced collaboration come bigger questions.
Questions like: Can owners and operators optimize their assets today and cut future costs? Can design and engineering teams share data without compromising intellectual property? Can electrical engineers embrace new tools and processes to design for a renewable energy-driven future?
The answers to these pressing questions are yes. At Autodesk University (AU) 2022, we unveiled advancements aimed at boosting collaboration and streamlining workflows across teams responsible for designing, building, and managing the built environment. Let's dive deeper.

### Extending the Value of BIM for Owners and Operators
Data is rapidly becoming a core business asset. Yet, a staggering 95%[1] of all data remains untapped in engineering and construction.
Autodesk Tandem leverages BIM data to map the existence and location of assets, driving digital transformation for owners by integrating separate operational systems and placing them within a 3D environment—a digital twin. Last year, we launched Tandem as a digital twin solution derived from the BIM process. This year, we're taking its potential further by enabling facility monitoring. Customers can now link Tandem to operational systems and data to create a digital twin that offers insights for cutting costs and enhancing occupant experiences. For instance, Tandem can connect to building management systems and environmental sensors to continuously track a facility's energy consumption. This data can guide decisions about optimizing energy usage without compromising occupant comfort. The public beta for Tandem Facility Monitoring is set to launch soon.

### Bridging Insights and Operations Through Integrated Solutions
The post-pandemic shift to remote work has pushed building owners and operators to maximize facility value and boost efficiency. Research from analyst firm Verdantix shows that 30% of facility executives prioritize cost reduction, while 22% focus on decarbonizing their portfolios. In response, Autodesk joined forces with iOffice + SpaceIQ to empower smarter facilities and better decision-making, helping the industry slash costs and emissions.
iOffice + SpaceIQ offers the industry's most comprehensive suite of integrated workplace and enterprise asset management solutions, focusing on the operational and performance aspects of the building lifecycle. Their Archibus software is a fully integrated workplace management system (IWMS).
The newly integrated Archibus and Autodesk AEC Collection Bundle merge BIM, building operations, and workplace software for unified data management. This empowers building owners and operators to extract more value from their BIM data throughout the entire lifecycle—both during design and afterward. They can gain critical insights using construction data in operations and apply operational data in future design phases.
This partnership strengthens Autodesk's capabilities in operational building management, offering stronger support to customers across the building lifecycle.

### Revolutionizing Water Management with Info360 Plant
In an era shaped by climate change, water and energy conservation are no longer optional—they're essential. According to the EPA, municipalities and utilities can cut energy costs by up to 30% by adopting energy-efficient practices in water and wastewater treatment plants, fostering sustainability.
With Info360 Plant, Autodesk is deepening its commitment to securing a sustainable water future. We're expanding the operational and maintenance insights of the Info360 platform to water and wastewater facilities.
Info360 Plant is a cloud-based operational analytics platform tailored specifically for the water industry, developed by water experts. It delivers real-time, automated, actionable analysis and insights to uncover and resolve issues with justifiable data.
By harnessing the power of digital twins, Info360 Plant helps plant operations teams deliver clean water, shrink their carbon footprint, manage operational risks, cut operating expenses, ensure compliance, and justify facility improvement projects.

### Strengthening Cloud Collaboration Across AEC
We’re also investing heavily in cloud collaboration and coordination for AEC customers to refine design workflows, spot issues early, and expedite project delivery—all to reduce risk and cost while achieving superior project outcomes.
#### Protecting Intellectual Property in Project Sharing
The anytime, anywhere collaboration and project management offered by Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro enable design teams to enhance coordination with construction partners and clients. However, while data sharing is beneficial, excessive sharing can lead to complications.
Released in March, the Bridge tool in Autodesk Construction Cloud is now accessible to users of Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, and Autodesk Takeoff. Engineers can now control exactly what gets shared across projects and accounts.
Bridge facilitates cross-account collaboration, allowing firms to store project information in their own accounts and share it in a controlled manner, minimizing errors and reducing project risks. Files and sheets can already be shared via Bridge, and we're working on extending this functionality to include Design Collaboration packages. This level of project control ensures users can keep their data safe in their accounts or projects while preventing premature access by external stakeholders.

#### Streamlining Civil 3D Collaboration
Effective data management and collaboration are vital for complex civil engineering projects. BIM Collaborate Pro is leading the charge in how civil engineers collaborate across teams using cloud technology. With the upcoming Desktop Connector, collaborators can access Civil 3D project data more swiftly than ever, whether via a web browser or their local machine. Regardless of location, users always have access to the latest project updates.
When it's time to produce deliverables, the new cloud-first Sheet Set Manager in the Autodesk Construction Cloud lets users generate Civil 3D and AutoCAD sheet sets for drawings. This updated tool makes managing and editing documentation easier and more efficient. Users can now create, remove, reorder, and edit existing sheets. Enhanced collaboration features allow publishing directly to PDF and sharing drawings with external stakeholders—all from the cloud.

#### Mobile Access: Bridging Office and Field
Communication breakdowns between office and field teams cost the U.S. construction industry over $280 billion annually[2].
The PlanGrid Build mobile app, available to Autodesk Docs, Autodesk BIM Collaborate, and Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro users, closes the information gap and empowers project teams to make crucial decisions faster. Teams using Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs can access the latest project information, navigate 3D models, and track issue statuses—all in one place.
With the new AutoCAD Web subscription, field teams can review the latest designs on laptops or mobile devices. Teams can also view designs stored in Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Drive, and other leading cloud storage providers. Collaboration is simplified through the Trace feature, which allows users to review and provide feedback on DWG files without altering the original drawing.
These web and mobile tools ensure the right information reaches the right people at the right time, keeping teams synchronized throughout the project lifecycle, no matter their location.

### Partnering for Sustainability
Climate change is fueling innovation in energy generation, storage, and consumption. By 2040, 40%[3] of global energy will come from renewables. To tackle such challenges, Autodesk teamed up with Schneider Electric to develop an electrical engineering design solution that integrates seamlessly with Revit. This innovative tool simplifies electrical design, analysis, and equipment sizing with real-time calculations on a single BIM platform.
Advanced Electrical Design for Revit extends the benefits of BIM to electrical engineers and designers, streamlining their workflows and addressing critical gaps in BIM-based processes. Engineers can now work in one environment to meet local and regional standards, reduce repetitive data entry across platforms, and automate reporting—all while maintaining dynamically linked diagrams. This cohesive workflow improves execution, cuts waste and project timelines, controls costs, and boosts energy efficiency.
This solution empowers electrical engineers to spearhead long-term digital transformation, adding significant value to customers navigating the evolving energy landscape—a necessity for a sustainable future.
Together, these announcements at AU 2022 will help our customers plan, design, build, and operate a more sustainable world.
To explore more AEC news from Autodesk University:
- Autodesk introduced a new AEC industry cloud, Autodesk Forma, which unifies BIM workflows across teams involved in designing, building, and operating the built environment. The first Forma offering will help customers extend the BIM process into planning and early-stage design.
